For more than 80 years, Reynolds and Reynolds has served automotive retailers with business forms and industry-leading software, trusted business practices, and award-winning service and support. As a result, Reynolds has been a partner with automotive dealers since the 1920s to help improve business operations and profitability in the dealership and to help dealers serve the changing needs of their customers.

1920s:

Reynolds creates the first standardized accounting forms and a paper-based accounting system to be used by Chevrolet and its retailers. The structured data generated through this innovation helped Chevrolet overtake Ford in the marketplace. The innovation also lays the groundwork for Reynolds to become the major supplier of forms to the entire automobile retailer market.

1960s:

Reynolds becomes the first to offer computer services to automotive retailers throughout the nation - a key first step in transforming the way individual retailers and car companies manage their businesses.

1970s:

1970s: The original Universal Computer Systems, Inc. (UCS) is founded as a regional data processing service bureau, providing local dealerships with weekly reports of their parts inventory.

1980s:

Reynolds introduces the ERA® dealership management system (DMS). ERA totally integrates all business office functions - boosting productivity and profits to new levels through the seamless transfer of data throughout the enterprise. Successor UCS companies began selling an in-house small IBM mainframe system and establishes itself as a product development leader.

1990s:

The ERA system continues to be the mass-market leader in dealership management systems. UCS continues its leadership in product development and technology innovation through its POWER DMS, introducing POWER Workstation (client / server) technology for dealerships.

2000s:

Reynolds and UCS both harness the power of the Internet by providing comprehensive customer relationship management solutions, Internet-enabled applications, and advances in dealership management systems. These solutions help dealerships adapt to a new technology-driven environment and capitalize on every customer interaction.

Reynolds and Reynolds and UCS merged in 2006 under the Reynolds name, forming the pre-eminent dealer services provider and offering dealers their choice of DMS — ERA or POWER — and an array of retail applications, documents, and services. Today, Reynolds continues to enhance both the ERA and POWER systems with new applications and functionality that extend into every area of dealership operations.
